Prof. Sampath is a Professor in Gas Turbine Engineering and Sustainable Propulsion at Cranfield University, United Kingdom. He is the Head of the Gas Turbine Systems & Operations and the Director of Continuing Professional Development (CPD) programmes at Centre for Propulsion Engineering and Thermal Power.
He holds a postgraduate degree in Scientific Computation and Simulation and a PhD in Gas Turbine Engine Fault Diagnostics, both from Cranfield University. Prof. Sampath is recognised as one of the pioneers in the application of Artificial Intelligence methods for fault diagnostics and life cycle management of Gas Turbines. With over twenty-plus years of industry experience, he has been involved in various aspects of gas turbines, such as design & development, manufacturing, engine performance audits, repair/overhauls, engine installation, controls, research, teaching, and leadership roles. Prof. Sampath has led several significant research grants and consultancies, holds two patents, and has over 80 refereed journal and conference publications. His area of work is in application of artificial intelligence in engine life cycle management, decarbonisation and sustainability.
Currently, he serves on the board of the International Society for Air Breathing Engines (ISABE) and is the Deputy President of the Institution of Power Engineers (IPowerE) in the United Kingdom. He is a Fellow of the Institution of Mechanical Engineers, the Institution of Power Engineers and the UK Higher Education Academy.
